“Archival Tendencies” is a participatory project that explores how cultural memory, particularly within grassroots media arts communities, is preserved, shared, and passed on. Blending pedagogical approaches with oral traditions, the project utilizes the primal format of the campfire to create pluri-voiced conversations. The goal is to bridge generations of cultural producers—from “uploaders” to “deleters”—by treating the body, voice, and shared stories as living archives.
Following the ‘Island Apocalypse Tours’ (2024) we will also synthesize the documentation and archival materials gathered into a multimedia campsite-esque installation at Oranssi.
The Pixelache community and similar media art networks face the challenge of managing institutional memory in an “always-online” society. This project addresses how we can learn from elders, engage new students, and create sustainable structures for association archiving.
